Your Mission: Shoot More Geese The USFWS wants to give state wildlife agencies new freedom to reduce resident Canada goose numbers nationwide. Hunting regulations could be liberalized to allow increased bag limits and longer shooting hours. New rules might be approved in time for 2004.
In addition, states could open new summer goose seasons between August 1 and September 15 to allow the hunting of resident fowl at a time when migratory Canadas would not be affected. Resident geese, according to the USFWS, are those that nest in the lower 48 states between March and June or reside there between April and August. The flexible federal regulations could be applied differently by individual states.
