Today, I had a great time at the annual Oklahoma Lieutenant Governors Turkey Hunt. I got the invitation from Lieutenant Governor Jeri Askins; Ed Cunnius from Oklahoma Department of Wildlife & Conservation; and Andy Tucker from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Oklahoma Chapter of the Wild Turkey Federation also sponsored the event. The event was a mix of local and national businesses and state and federal agencies all coming together for an event to enjoy the outdoors and the great hunting Oklahoma has to offer. They’ve been doing this for years.
There were a number of turkeys harvested. I saw some, but they were too far off and wouldn’t pay attention to my calls. Oh well, that’s turkey hunting.
About 150 people attended the luncheon with Lt. Governor Jeri Askins in Okemah. Let me tell you, I was not prepared for the lunch. I mean, lunch was an event by itself. Joe Davidson, a world champion barbecue chef, was there to prepare a feast I will not soon forget: chicken, brisket, beans, and potato salad. I’m still full.
This was a first-class event hosted by the Klutts family at the Klutts Hunting Camp. You’ll have to look far and wide to find more community pride than in Okemah.
